Pie Social is September 9

Homemade pies, from apple to lemon meringue, will be lined up from 1 to 3 p.m., September 9, for the annual pie social sponsored by the Richmond Land Trust and the Richmond Historical Society. The event will be held at the Haas farm, 371 Dean Hill Road, and all town residents are invited.

The Haas family has owned the property for decades, using it as a second home, summer and winter. Some years ago, John and Chara Haas placed a conservation restriction on the scenic acreage, ensuring that it would never be developed. They hosted the pie social years ago, and their offspring have welcomed the town again.

The vista of South County mountains is spectacular from the house and lawn, even more so from a rustic bench farther up the road.

Pie-makers all over town will bring a pie, creating an impressive lineup under the tent. The event also features announcement of the 2023 recipient of the prestigious Charles and Mary Kusik Citizenship Award. Bill Edwards, president of the historical society, was honored last year.

Tickets will be sold for a drawing on several baskets of goodies, including Richmond honey, history, 01254 caps and wine. The event itself is free.
